The D bit is a data field in the X.25 data packet used for end-to-end acknowledgement. The data terminal equipment (DTE) uses it to indicate whether it wishes to receive an end-to-end acknowledgement. The D bit is applied in data and CALL data packets and is set to "1" therein, in all other packet types the D bit = 0.
