Filter characteristics for loudness assessment

Loudness is assessed in the Workplace Ordinance using different filters. While dB(A) uses a filter characteristic corresponding to a loudness of 40 phon and dB(B) operates at 70 phon for higher loudness levels, dB(C) is used for even higher loudness levels with a reference characteristic of 90 phon. With this filter characteristic, the deviations for high and low tones are much less pronounced than with the other two measurement curves. Sound level meters for dB(C) weighting measure "dB above Reference Noise with C-messaging Weighting", dBrnC.
