database format (dBase) (DBF)

dBase is one of the first database programs that were commercially available.

The first development work for dBase dates back to the 1960s and was aimed at the CP/Moperating system, which was used in microcomputers at that time. Later, dBase was ported to other operating systems, such as Mac OS and the DOS operating system.

dBase was used to manage the tabular entries in databases. The DBF file format (Database File) is the table format of the dBase database system. The file format can be read and interpreted by other database systems.
