data over voice (DOV)
Data over Voice (DOV) refers to transmission methods in which voice and data are transmitted over the same transmission medium.
In the past, this referred to a telephone cable over which data could be transmitted simultaneously with a telephone call. The DoV process can be achieved, for example, by splitting frequency bands, as in the xDSL processes, or by transmitting data during pauses in speech, as in voice pause detection. Another method in which frequency ranges below the voice range are used to transmit data is called Data Under Voice( DUV).
