cloud data management interface (SNIA) (CDMI)

The Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) is an interface specified by the Storage Networking Industry Association( SNIA) between enterprise storage systems, i.e. those located in the private clouds, and storage systems from the public clouds.

The CDMI interface can be used equally in all cloud computing concepts- in private clouds, public clouds and hybrid clouds - and enables end-to-end management of all data assets, including service levels.

The basis of CDMI is the RESTful HTTP protocol, Representational State Transfer( REST) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Stored data is protected by comprehensive authentication and encryption. Metadata, which is stored with the other information, can include information about how many copies of the records exist or may be made, how long the records should be stored in the cloud, and which business units may receive copies. Furthermore, the metadata can contain information about the accounting.
