Cyberterrorism comprises politically motivated attacks on information systems, programs and data in order to cause lasting damage to society, its infrastructure and supplies.

Since the definitions of cyberterrorism are not uniform, the definition of the German Federal Office for InformationSecurity( BSI) is cited here. According to this, cyberterrorism is characterized bycyberattacks against IT-controlled critical infrastructures. Other organizations define the term more broadly and deliberately include cybercrime and cyberattacks that cause physical, strategic, organizational, financial, or economic damage.

Cyberterrorism is about attacks on transport infrastructure or on IT technology of transport companies, on energy supply, communication infrastructure on health care. Other attacks could be aimed at defense or could influence political opinion and thus have an impact on political opinion-forming and elections.
