Customer Information Control System (CICS) is a widely used proprietary transaction system from IBM.

CICS is a system control program that acts as a link between operating systems, application programs and databases. It has been used on mainframes since the 1970s to control transaction-oriented dialog systems in conjunction with terminals; it is also available for Windows and supports client- server architectures.

CICS is available for various application servers, so for systems with the operating system z/ OS, and also in modified form for OS/2, Windows, AIX, Linix, Solaris and Unix. It is characterized by high availability and reliability and high data throughput.
