customer average interruption frequency index (smart grid) (CAIFI)

Customer Average Interruption Frequency Index (CAIFI) a characteristic value for supply reliability in power networks. The CAIFI value indicates the average consumer interruption frequency.

The CAIFI index is an index for reliability analyses in power networks. It is calculated from the ratio of the absolute number of power interruptions and the number of power consumers who had at least one power outage during the period. The CAIFI value can be used to derive a trend about the security of supply.

In addition to the CAIFI index, there is also the System Average Interruption Frequency Index( SAIFI) and the Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index ( MAIFI).
