cross gain modulation (XGM)

Cross Gain Modulation (XGM) is a technique used in wavelength converters

for wavelength conversion. In this process, conversion of laser wavelengths is achieved by cross gain, where a SemiconductorOpticalAmplifier (SOA) is operated in saturation and uses the nonlinear gain region for modulation. Wavelength conversion is better at shorter wavelengths of 780 nm or 850 nm than at longer ones.
