copy generation management system (copy protection) (CGMS)

The Copy Generation Management System (CGMS) copy protection is based on additional information that shows which parts of a DVD 's content may be copied and how often.

The CGMS system is intended to restrict the creation of multiple copy generations. The prerequisite for this copy protection is that the corresponding hardware supports CGMS.

The additional information displayed is ignored by devices without CGMS and is only recognized by those players or video cards that support CGMS. CGMS works together with the Digital Copy Protection System( DCPS).
