Converter platforms are substations of offshore wind turbines installed on the open sea, i.e. offshore. They correspond to HVDC platforms
. Converter platforms transform the three-phase current generated by the wind power generators to a high voltage level and convert it into a high-voltage direct current, which is transmitted through the sea via HVDC technology to the nearest feed-in point on the mainland. The wind turbines of an entire offshore wind farm are connected to a converter platform. Onshore, these platforms are referred to as head converter stations.
