convergence protocol (CP)

  1. Convergence protocol is a term from OSI terminology. In OSI routing, the protocol of the network layer is divided into three parts, with each sublayer having a specific composite protocol. These composite protocols are called convergence protocols. There are two corresponding OSI protocols: the Subnetwork Dependent Convergence Protocol( SNDCP) and the Subnetwork Independent Convergence Protocol( SNICP).
  2. The term convergence protocol is used in UMTS in the context of radio traffic, namely in the context of the Packet Data Convergence Protocol( PDCP). In addition, the Physical Layer Convergence Protocol( PLCP) is used to describe an alternative method that was used on older T-lines for data rate adaptation to the slots.
