conventional definition television (NTSC) (CDTV)

In defining Digital Television( DTV), the ATSC redefined the former analog television standards still in use into Conventional Definition Television (CDTV).

CDTV applies to all analog television standards in which broadcasting has occurred since the 1950s. In the PAL television standard, there are 575 visible lines and 760 pixels per line, displayed interlaced with 25 full and 50 half frames. For NTSC, it is 480 lines and 640 pixels per line, displayed interlaced with a refresh rate of 29.97 Hz. The aspect ratio is 4:3 for all television methods.

The International Standards Organization( ISO) has redefined the various color modulation techniques in the ITU-R standardBT.601.
