contingency analysis (CA)

Contingency analysis (CA) is a term used in smart grids. A contingency analysis simulates the effects of connecting and disconnecting energy-generating and energy-consuming devices and systems. CA systems create models that calculate the load on energy distribution systems and ensure that the lines are not overloaded and that sufficient energy reaches the end user. This also includes the consideration of redundant transmission lines.
