content switch

A content switch is a switch that controls its switching operation depending on the data content. Layer 7 switches also belong to this switch group. The content switch processes the content of the data packet up to layer 7 and then switches the connection.

Switching on the higher layers is much more complex and time-consuming than switching on the lower layers, since the desired content has neither a defined length nor a defined structure. The complete information must be searched for the switching decision. In one method, this is done after the connection is established using Secure Socket Layer( SSL) by the connected server modifying the corresponding cookie. Subsequent data packets are always routed to the same physical server based on this information.

Another method is based on the IP addresses of the client systems.

The architecture of a content switch recognizes three different types of processing: frame-specific, session-specific and background processing. Frame-specific processing includes all types of processing that assume modification and verification of frame data. Session-specific processing is used to establish, maintain and terminate connections, and background processing is used to check the server and service.
