content protection for recordable media (copy protection) (CPRM)
Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) is a method of preventing the copying and erasure of recordable media on a personal computer or player.
The CPRM process is used with recordable removable media such as the DVD-R or DVD-RW and with memory cards such as the SD card, but is also provided with Advanced Technology Attachment( ATA) for hard disks. CPRM-compatible hard disks are individually marked and authenticated for playback and modification of data files on the disk.
CPRM is intended to prevent piracy; it was developed by the 4C Group with Intel, IBM, Matsushita and Toshiba and proposed to the Content Protection Technical Working Group( CPTWG).
