compact disc file system (CDFS)

CDFS stands equally for Compact Disc File System and CD-ROM File System. In both cases it is a 32-bit file system for DC-ROMs formatted according to ISO 9660.

ISO 9660 specifies three different methods for recording and file names ofcompact discs. In addition to ISO 9660, there is also the Joliet format as an extension to the ISO format, which supports compact discs whose file names contain Unicode characters. CDFS does not support CDs formatted with Rock-Ridge.

The functionality of CDFS depends on the Windows version. CD-ROM File System (CDFS) is a special 32-bit file system for DC-ROMs under Windows 95 that controls access to CD drives.
