communications applications specification (CAS)

Communications Applications Specification (CAS) was a proposed interface standard for fax machines and modems developed by Intel and Digital Communications Associates. The proposal was in competition with the Class x hierarchy with Class 1 and Class 2 developed by the Electronic Industries Association ( EIA). CAS did not prevail in the market.
