communication and networking riser (CNR)

Communication and Networking Riser(CNR) is an industry standard developed by Intel that serves as an expansion bus for motherboards.

Unlike the AudioModem Riser( AMR), with which the CNR bus is not compatible, this is a bus that supports audio, modem, local area networks( LAN) and the USB interface. This extension bus and the corresponding cards are intended to harmonize different PC connections, especially for different international Internet accesses. The CNR specification for motherboards with ATX form factor was introduced by Intel in 2000.

In the audio sector, the Communication and Networking Riser (CNR) supports multi- channel audio, in home networks the connection via telephone cable or V.90 modems and in the LAN sector Ethernet and Fast Ethernet with 100 Mbps.
