A Common Short Code (CSC) is a short code for
mobile phones. The short code is considerably shorter than the normal call number and can only be used for transmitting messages in the Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and not for setting up voice connections. Short codes are country-specific numbers that are used as value-added services for specific purposes and must be applied for from the carrier. Typical areas of use are televoting, e-voting and opinion polls.
