committed access rate (CAR)

The Committed Access Rate (CAR) is a quality of service (QoS) feature in routers that limits the data rate

at the input and output. With the CAR function, the data rate of the traffic can be limited depending on various criteria such as the interface, priority, quality of service or IP access. The Committed Access Rate offers various configuration options with which the data rate can be regulated down when the limit data rate is reached.
