A clockpulse generator (CPG) is a crystal-controlled oscillator
that serves as a clock generator for the system clock in information systems and communication systems. The clock rate of the clock generators is oriented to the system clock and can be synchronized by high-precision timing signals. For certain slower clocked circuits such as logic or counters, the clock frequency is divided to a lower clock rate. Like other generators, clock generators use active electronic components and a crystal as a frequency-stable component.
