Cloaking means concealing in German. Cloaking refers to search engine optimization( SEO), whereby the robots of a search engine are presented with different page content than the visitor. The Internet user does not see the false drops cloaking pages because he is redirected to another provider page.

IP cloaking is one of the black-hat methods that can be used for indexing search services for unreadable multimedia pages and serves to improve the position on the results pages( SERP). The robots are offered text-based pages optimized for search engine ranking, while visitors are offered multimedia pages.

The client distinction is made on the basis of the IP address and/or the user ID. Since search engine robots also report with other user IDs, cloaking can be evaluated negatively by the search engines.

IP cloaking can also be used in other ways. For example, to mislead the competition. If, for example, a provider uses the IP address to determine that a competitor is constantly viewing his website and calling up the conditions and prices in order to undercut them, then the website operator can use IP cloaking to charge the competitor higher prices during his visits.
