character error rate (CER)

When determining the error rate, a distinction is made between the bit error rate (BER), the block

error rate (BLER) and the character error rate (CER). The character error rate (CER) results from the ratio of the number of characters received with errors to the total number of characters sent. For example, if 6 characters are received with errors out of 1,000 characters sent, then the character error rate is 0.6%.
