cent

The unit cent, which originates from the 19th century, is a unit from music theory with a linear frequency division. A semitone is divided into 100 cents. An octave consists of 12 semitones, or 1,200 cents. Since minimum frequency changes are specified in the cent scale, a musician can hear a pitch difference of 3 cents.
