cellular V2X (C-V2X)

In communication between motor vehicles, car-to-car communication( C2C, V2V), or car-to- infrastructure communication( C2I, V2I), the aim is to achieve maximum reliability and data transmission with the lowest possible latency. Errors in transmission or excessive latency can have devastating consequences.

With the cellular concept Cellular V2X (C-V2X), which was already specified with the LTE Release 14 mobile communications standard, the latency for driver assistance systems such as automatic distance control, lane change assist or the pedestrian detection system is reduced considerably. The cellular systems achieve latency times of less than 10 ms. The error rate of defective or undeliverable data packets is zero. The high transmission reliability increases traffic safety and traffic efficiency. The latter through optimal utilization of green phases or information about free parking spaces.

Since safety-critical information is exchanged directly between road users, communication also takes place in areas where radio coverage is inadequate.

Wireless data transmission via WLANs in accordance with 802.11p and DSRC communication are interesting alternatives to the C-V2X concept.
