In ATM, the Carrier Identification Parameter( CIP) is a three or four bitencoding in the address message of the ATM header.

The Carrier Identification Parameter (CIP) indicates the transmission type used on the link in use.

InSS7 networks, the Carrier Identification Parameter (CIP) is a service that network operators can use to merge trunk groups. The traffic generated by this can be detected by the multiple Carrier Identification Codes( CIC) on a single trunk group.
