carrier grade (CG)
In networking, carrier grade ( CG) stands for a classification of network components used in carrier networks.
Carrier-grade network components in carrier-grade networks include carrier-grade routers, switches, servers, and other components and modules. The CG classification refers to reliability and resilience. Devices with a carrier-grade classification meet the highest level of resilience and correspond to high availability. Their availability is 99.999%, which corresponds to a failure time of 8 minutes per year. The recovery time in the event of a failure is less than 50 ms.
