carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0)

Carrier Ethernet CE 2.0 is the further development of Carrier Ethernet CE 1.0. This communication service was developed by the Metro Ethernet Forum( MEF) and uses Ethernet as carrier technology. Under Carrier Ethernet 2.0, the specifications, the framework for operation and the corresponding certification programs have been expanded compared to CE 1.0.

Carrier Ethernet 2.0 differs from the previous version in that it offers a more comprehensive range of services. For example, CE 2.0 offers two services each for E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree, plus E-Access. There are also implementations of services under Software Defined Networking( SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization( NFV). Other features include Multi- CoS, Manageability, as well as Ethernet Interconnect Points( EIP) activities and the MEF-Services Interconnections project (MEF- SI). Multi-CoS supports classes of service (CoS) of applications, regardless of geography, Manageability refers to fault management and performance monitoring of services, and Interconnect supports multi-CoS and manageable services across geographic boundaries.
