byte parallel

Byte-parallel transmission is the simultaneous, parallel transmission of a complete information unit. The information unit can be one byte in size, but can also comprise two, four or eight bytes.

Byte-parallel transmission normally takes place on computer buses such as the system bus, address bus or data bus, on which the information units are transmitted byte by byte in parallel. Depending on the bus width, parallelism can span one or more bytes. For example, buses with a bus width of 64 bits operate with eight parallel bytes.

If larger information units are transmitted byte by byte one after the other, this is referred to as byte serial transmission.
