building information modelling (BIM)

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an information technology modeling process that provides architects and construction planners with project-relevant information for the design of buildings and provides up-to-date information throughout the construction process.

The BIM process accompanies the planners and executors throughout the entire construction phase, from planning, design, bidding, scheduling and cost planning to completion. It provides a constant overview of current construction progress, time and cost management and can also be used in facility management.

Building information modeling improves information exchange and collaboration between the parties involved. It reduces planning deficiencies, time and cost overruns and thus improves qualitative execution. It enables the calculation of design alternatives and simplifies design changes.

Building data modeling works with 3D models and represents a further development of classic CAD systems through the integration of standardized metadata for time, material and cost management.
