broadband network

The term broadband network has two completely different meanings. On the one hand, it refers to networks that use carrier-modulated technology on one or two cables (single- or dual-cable broadband networks).

The signals are transmitted in individual frequency channels. For this purpose, the signals must be modulated onto the different carrier frequencies.

Broadband networks of this type were also used as local area networks, but are currently no longer of market significance. They have been standardized under IEEE 802.3 10Broad-36.

In addition, a broadband network is understood to be a high-speed network with a data rate that is above the primary multiplex rate of 2.048 Mbit/s (Europe).
