broadband connection oriented bearer (ATM) (BCOB)

Broadband Connection Oriented Bearer (BCOB) is information in the setup message in ATM that is used to indicate which service type is being requested by the requesting user.

There are three transmission classes: ClassBCOB-A is used by ATM users for connection-oriented transmission at a constant bit rate. Internetworking corresponds to AAL class of service A in this case. BCOB-C is used by ATM users for connection-oriented transmission with a variable bit rate. The BCOB-X transmission class is a transparent service class in which the AAL service class, transmission type and timing requirements are transparent to the network.
