blu-ray disc video (BD-Video)
BD-Video is a Blu-Ray disc variant for high-definition television( HDTV) playback. Accordingly, it is suitable for playing videos with HDTV resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
Due to the high storage capacity of 25 GB for single- layer and 50 MB for dual-layer, 135 and 180 minutes of HDTV with MPEG-2 can be played, respectively. At lower resolutions like those of standard TV, the playback time increases to up to 20 hours.
The data rate of the standard Blu-Ray disc of 36 Mbit/s is sufficient for the transfer of the high-quality video. BD-Video has a data rate of 54 Mbit/s and for the audio/video data one of 48 Mbit/s. BD-videos are equipped with copy protection to prevent illegal copying.
