blu ray disc founders (BDF)

The Blu-Ray Disc Founders (BDF) is an association of several IT technology and consumer electronics companies.

The members of this body developed the physical specifications of the Blu-Rya disc. In 2004, they specified the BD-ROM in single- layer with 23.3 GB and 27 GB, respectively, and the dual-layer with 54 GB. The specifications for the four-layer and eight-layer were developed later.

The Universal Disk Format( UDF 2.5) and audio codecs were also defined in this context. The goal of these activities is to increase the acceptance of the Blu-Ray disc and to place it as the successor to the DVD. In 2005, Blu-Ray Disc Founders launched the Blu-Ray Disc Association( BDA).
