blocker based OADM (optical network) (BOADM)
BOADM, Blocker Based OADMs, are reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers(OADM) that use Wavelength Blockers( WB) and can be configured remotely.
Wavelength blockers can block entire frequency bands or multiple wavelengths and attenuate the level of light signals. The wavelength blockers use switches in microsystem technology or in LCoS technology.
BOADM components are used in long haul links in wide area optical networks and can transmit 80 wavelength channels with a frequency spacing of 100 GHz using DWDM technology.
