black-level calibration

Imagesignalprocessors(ISP) with CMOS sensors often represent unexposed pixels with a lighter value that deviates from deep black.

To ensure that black image details are represented as deep blacks when shooting with digital cameras and video cameras, image signal processors have calibration options for the black level - Black-Level Calibration - and also for the white balance. Black-Level Calibration corrects the pixel data in the black region so that the output data for black pixels whose value is slightly different from zero is set to zero.

Another method was used in classic analog video technology to reduce color cast in recordings. This process was called Automatic Black Balance( ABB), and it automatically adjusted the color channels.
