bit per second (bps)
The unit of measurement for transmission speed or throughput is the data rate or bit rate, which is specified in bits per second (bps) or bit/s.
In Anglo-Saxon literature, the notation "bps" is used for the bit per second specification, whereas in Europe, bit/s is used. Bit/s or bps are usually associated with a prefix representing the power of ten, i.e. kilobits per second (kbit/s or kbps), which are a thousand bits per second, megabits per second (Mbit/s or Mbps), which are a million bits per second, gigabits per second (Gbit/s or Gbps), which are a billion bits per second, or terabits per second (Tbit/s or Tbps), which are a trillion bits per second.
