The bit error frequency is equivalent to the bit error rate
(BER) and expresses how many bits of a total transmitted number of bits were transmitted incorrectly. The bit error rate is the ratio of "bits received with errors" to "total
bits transmitted".The bit error frequency is a dimensionless number with a negative quotient, for example: 4 x 10exp-6. This means that in the transmission of 1 million bits, four were wrong.
Thesmaller the number, the better the bit error rate.
The bit error rate is a quality criterion for digital transmissions and is described in ITU recommendation G.821.
