bending coupler

Bend couplers are optocouplers. They work according to a simple principle to decouple light waves from an optical waveguide by bending optical waveguides extremely strongly. Hence the name bending coupler.

Optical waveguides consist of the core glass and the cladding glass. If the coating is removed from the cladding glass and the optical waveguide is sufficiently bent, then modes emerge from the cladding glass. Bend couplers operate according to this principle.

If decoupling is to be permanent, the bent fiber and the connecting fiber are ground down to the core and bonded together. Just as light waves can be coupled out, light can also be coupled into the optical waveguide via such a bend coupler.
