A Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) is a thermal management system for battery electric vehicles that is critical for battery thermal stability, battery capacity maintenance, battery charge range, and battery cell longevity.

A thermal management system ensures maximum battery performance under various operating conditions. A battery thermal management system (BTMS) plays an important role in controlling the thermal behavior of the battery, making sure that the battery temperature is kept within the safe range and does not exceed the allowable limits during a fast charge. Temperatures can certainly reach values of over 200 °C during fast charging.

BTMS technologies use passive or active heat dissipation and rely on air cooling, liquid cooling, phase change materials and thermoelectric cooling. The technical design of the battery packs alone ensures good heat dissipation and fast charging times with high charging currents.
