barebone
A barebone system was a stripped-down computer system consisting of only a basic version.
The basic version of a barebone can be expanded into a powerful system by adding additional system components such as a central processing unit( CPU), RAM, hard disks and drives, circuit boards and modules. The advantage is that the user receives a computer that is optimally adapted in terms of hardware and software to meet his needs.
Barebone PCs used to be configured as mini PCs and consisted of an attractive mini housing with power supply and motherboard in which all other components could be installed. Barebones were used for special tasks and often as audio- video servers in the home.
