bandwidth management

Bandwidth management refers to all measures in wide-area networks that provide services with optimum bandwidth. Such bandwidth management does not create additional bandwidth, but rather optimizes allocation while taking into account the quality of service( QoS) and the agreed service level agreements( SLA).

Even an increase in physical bandwidth does not necessarily provide an improvement in certain quality characteristics such as jitter, response time behavior or delay, which are quality-determining in certain services.

Bandwidth management systems are placed at the edge of a network, they analyze the data streams and allocate them the bandwidth that the user or the carrier has granted them based on the agreements. Bandwidth management is done by classifying the traffic flows in terms of IP addresses, network protocol, or service field( TOS) in the IP header.
