Badware is the collective term for malicious software. These are software programs that cause damage to the computer or upload advertisements. Subgroups of badware are adware, malware or spyware. Badware is often downloaded free of charge from websites. These sites are either created deliberately, or manipulated without the knowledge of the site operator.

There are programs that protect against badware and can be downloaded from the Internet free of charge.
