Automatic Volume Limiter (AVL) is an automatic volume limiter. AVL technology can be electronic circuitry or software.

Automatic volume limiter is used in audio devices such as cassette recorders, MP3 players, CD players and also in TV sets and limits the maximum volume to a level set by the manufacturer or adjustable by the user, thus protecting the hearing from damage.

In audio equipment, the technology is mostly used when using headphones, so that the volume level does not cause any damage and does not disturb secondary parties. In television, the AVL function can also be used to adjust the excessive level of commercials to the other level.
