automatic high-beam assistance (AHB)

Automatic High-Beam Assistance (AHB) is one of the driver assistance systems. Corresponding systems detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the taillights of vehicles ahead, and can thus automatically adjust their lighting conditions to the traffic situation.

In the case of Highbeam Assist, a camera mounted on the windshield detects the headlights of oncoming vehicles and switches its own headlights from high beam to low beam or adaptive light so that oncoming road users are not dazzled. As soon as the high-beam assistant detects that no oncoming road users are approaching or driving in front of it, it switches back to high beam.
