To ensure that black image details are not recorded with a colour cast when recording with video cameras, the colour channels for red, green and blue are matched to each other. This matching, which takes place with the aperture closed, is called automatic black balance (ABB). Like white balance, black balance can be performed automatically or manually. The color components of the three primary colors are adjusted so that the sum signal is color-neutral.
