AudioVideoBridging (AVB) was originally developed for live streaming. However, it is increasingly used in industrial environments, in the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT), and thus in Ethernet and automotive Ethernet, where it improves real-time capability. Ethernet is based on a stochastic access method, which limits its real-time capability. It is therefore of limited use for industrial, audio-visual and multimedia applications. To compensate for this disadvantage, attempts are being made to make Ethernet real-time capable with a wide variety of extensions. So that it can transmit audio and videodata reliably and almost without delay over Ethernet networks. Audio Video Bridging (AVB) extensions, which enable the transmission of time-critical audio and video signals, should be seen under this aspect. Enhancements include bandwidth, quality of service with optimizable quality of services(QoS), and modified access methods for real-time Ethernet. Despite all this activity, real-time capability is lacking in the transmission of audiovisual content, due in no small part to asynchronously delivered data packets. With audio-video bridging (AVB), which is covered in the 802.1BA working group, frames are delivered deterministically. The AVB technique is suitable for the distribution of high-quality audio, but especially for lip-synchronous playback of audio-video, which is desirable for infotainment systems.
