asynchronous static RAM (Async. SRAM)

Asynchronous SRAM has been around since the 386 processor was invented. It is still used today in many personalcomputers(PCs) in Level 2 caches. The name comes from the fact that these Static RAMs (SRAM) do not work synchronously with the system clock and the central processing unit( CPU) has to wait for the data requested from the L2 cache. However, the waiting time is not as long as with Dynamic RAMs( DRAM).

Async SRAMs have access times of 8 ns, a clock frequency of 500 MHz and operate with a supply voltage of 2.7 V to 3.1 V. The burst cycle is 3-1-1.
