associated control channel (GSM) (ACCH)

Associated Control Channels (ACCH) are companion channels for the transmission of signaling and control data in GSM networks. They have both an uplink and a downlink connection and are directly connected to an existing channel.

A distinction is made between slow control channels, Slow Associated Control Channels( SACCH) with 50 bit/s, and fast control channels, Fast Associated Control Channels( FACCH) with 333 bit/s. The main difference between the two transmission rates is the block error rate, which is much better for the fast version.

In General Packet Radio Service( GPRS), the ACCH channel is assigned to the Packet Data Traffic Channel (PDTCH) and is called Packet Associated Control Channel (PACCH).
